World's Largest Cricket Stadium to be built in India : Sardar Patel Stadium

India is on its path of development and reformations. We will soon witness one of the biggest reformations in the history of cricket. Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad is being renovated and it will be a milestone in the world of cricket. It is all set to become the biggest cricket stadium in the world, as far as seating capacity is concerned. It will even break the capacity of Melbourne Cricket Ground and Lord's Cricket Ground in England which currently has the highest seating capacity. The Gujarat Cricket Association has handed the stadium's renovation project to Larsen and Turbo (L&T). It will be operational in two years time and will be constructed at a cost of Rs 700 crore.

The new stadium will be spread across 63 acres. Presently the stadium has the capacity to seat 54,000 people, but with the new plans, it is projected to seat about 1,10,000 people. This will almost double its seating capacity, surpassing the Melbourne Cricket Ground which seats 1,0,024 as the stadium with the largest seating capacity.

Besides an increased seating capacity, the new stadium will also have better infrastructure for the spectators with an increase in the number of air-conditioned boxes, improved parking facilities to accommodate approximately 3,000 cars and 10,000 bikes and spanking new 4 dressing rooms. The stadium will have 76 corporate boxes with state of art facility. It will even have good provision of flood lights for day-night matches as it is a regular sporting venue for Test and ODI cricket matches.

There would be a Statue of Unity which will be made of rich bronze and there are     proposals of it having the world’s fastest elevators to keep the visitor’s tour engaging.

The plan also includes high end sustainable sports facilities, stores on the outside façade, a gym, creche , 3 restaurants on one side, a club house and an Olympic-size swimming pool. It would also have a hotel and three huge banquet halls for meetings and conventions.

Special focus is being given to having amenities like VIP Boxes, Food Courts, Toilets & other Common Amenities like landscaping, mep, high mast lighting, Drainage, hvac, it & Security. The stadium will also boast of 3 practice grounds and and indoor cricket academy for budding cricketers.

In addition to these, keeping the security concerns in mind, the stadium authority has built a trench around the field. Apart from international cricket matches, this stadium also hosts a number of functions and events, hosted by the Government of Gujarat.

To avoid traffic congestion issues during matches, the stadium will have three entry points instead of one. The traffic will be segregated in three directions. Apart from the old Sabarmati to Motera road, there is a planning to integrate Metro Rail, which will pass from here. Third option is to link the Sabarmati Riverfront road with the stadium.
We might also have a new name for the stadium upon it's completion. The completed stadium is expected to be the home of the Gujarat Lions, one of the eight teams in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament.
